Green Life Style And Your Attitude Towards It
Many of us who are leading a decent life may be attracted to a green life style but unable to decide on how to go about it. There is a simple suggestion for you; get hold of a resolution that only the eco friendly goods will be bought from the day one onwards. Not only of purchasing environmentally friendly goods but we will have to determine how to go about of recycling the probable products too.
Daily, we purchase canned food items, while purchasing a can of tuna fish have we ever considered of how enormous scale catching of tuna fish are going to affect the natural environment of the dolphins? When we purchase cotton clothes, how the enormous cotton farms eject the synthetic waste to the nearby rivers, which are taking them down-stream where they are in excess. Just try to understand these facts and certainly they are not very pleasant.
The considerable problem is the production of non environmental friendly items. For example if you look at the commercial farming which is the basic contributor of chemical waste to the local rivers. For a common outlook this may not be posing many problems but it is the most significant destructive aspect for the eco system.
These chemical nutrients containing the genetic substances give a rapid spurt of growth but are not sustainable. When this excess thing goes to river the algae consumes it which results in its death and the piles of dead algae creates a phenomena known as ‘algae bloom’.
This creates a situation for zero oxygen in the water. This will further result in enormous scale death of fish and water animals or they progressively drift away creating an imbalance in the eco system. It will be a death blow for fast moving fish like salmon.
The chemicals like bleach causes havoc in the similar manner in the rivers, forests and the earth itself. Once it gets saturated in the rivers and earth, the reclamation would be impossible or will take years. We have to lower this contamination by going for environmentally friendly alternatives.
There is world wide awareness for nature friendly products. The creation of dead localities as it is in Gulf of Mexico, has further activated the process of environmentally friendly products by all who are responsible and concerned about it. Now most of the companies are going for environmentally friendly products, by doing this they get ample publicity and increased demand for their products.
You can do your own way to go for eco friendly products. Internet has brought the world at your finger tips, and you can order your items from the easiness of your home.

Who is to Blame For the Flooding Brought on by Typhoon Ondoy? A Message For the Filipinos
Although opinions vary on the future of fossil fuels such as oil, there is little debate that there is a finite supply of oil and that, at some point, mass produced alternative forms of energy will need to become economically viable. One alternative that has gained a lot of momentum is algae fuel.
Algae fuel is exactly what it sounds like… fuel refined from farmed algae. The algae can be grown using fresh water, salt water, and even brackish water. It can also be grown on land that is not suitable for other types of crops so it does not compete for valuable farm land. Growth rates vary based on the type of algae and its environment, but it can grow 20 to 30 times faster than conventional crops such as corn and soybeans with a harvest cycle of as little as 10 days. The harvested algae is then processed into “green crude” oil.
Obviously, there are different floating boom types for different types of water. As a matter of fact, there are even booms that absorb liquids, notably oil-based liquids and other hydrocarbons.
But the floating booms that are used for containment purposes are non-absorbent. Their job is to contain the spill, not to absorb it. Once the spill is contained, however, the absorbent booms and other absorbent tools can be brought in to absorb the oil.
The rivers and the waterways of Metro Manila are clogged and dirty. Anyone who believes otherwise must be living under a rock for the last fifty years or so. The legendary Pasig River is all but dead and even the much vaunted Marikina River is known to have spots of garbage here and there. The only reason why our waterways are so dirty is that we have made them our garbage bins.
If anyone needs evidence of this fact, one only needs to look at the aftermath of the flooding Monday morning after Ondoy has passed and the floodwaters have already ebbed. The streets were literally piled high with garbage dislodged by the flood. Certainly not all of them were furniture and other belongings swept away from individual households affected by the flooding. A good many of them were garbage disposed improperly in our rivers, canals and other waterways, brought to the surface by the flood.
If there is any lesson that needs to be learned from the coming of Typhoon Ondoy, it is definitely this: It is high time that we learned to respect our waterways. If we cannot help to clean and rehabilitate our waterways, then we should at least stop treating them as if they are our personal garbage bins. If Typhoon Ondoy, which was merely a Category 2 storm, could flood Metro Manila the way it did, what more would a stronger typhoon?
Instead of blaming other people for the disaster that happened, we should all becoming proactive and prevent another similar disaster from happening again. We need to start cleaning our waterways now!

Will algae oil save us?
Can oil made by algae save us?
In our green real estate section, you can usually read articles on green tips for our homes. However, this time it will be about some intriguing research, which can help us to get rid of the feelings of guilt connected with driving our oil guzzling cars. One of the essential parts of our everyday lives is oil. Almost everyone in the developed countries has a car, which is a fundamental part of everyday life, and so do I, as most of the realtors who have to drive around their neighbourhoods on a daily basis. Life would just be difficult without our beloved car. The prices of oil are driven up and down by the unsure oil supplies and our nature is suffering from carbon dioxide emissions and fuel burning. These are the well-known basic problems of driving.
Craig Venter is an American biologist and also a successful businessman who founded The Institute for Genomic Research. Genetic engineering is the main topic of his work, that has caused a great deal of heated debate by his most recent project.
Algae are known for creating natural oil, which is already part of some experiments with biofuels. But Venter has more ambitions than that. He is trying to find out if it’s possible to adjust the genomic make-up of algae in order to make them produce oil of almost the same structure as the traditional crude oil. If that works out, we would be able to use the current refineries and other oil industry infrastructure already available. Also plastics could be made the same way as from crude oil refining, using the existing production plants. As Exxon Mobile, being one of the largest oil producers in the world, heard of all this, they gave Venter a $600 million grant to go on with his research.
Now your concern might be, where is the ecological benefit? Well, right here. The oil created by algae might well contribute to coping with one of the most difficult problems of our world. The carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is used by plants in the photosynthesis process, turned into oil which is then burned and turned into oxalates. Of course, this prodigious solution won’t be available this or next year, but apparently it is a good way to go. The team of Craig Venter are trying to succeed where others have tried and failed, but this time there is a good chance of success. There are many people in Canada and elsewhere that would love to go easy on the environment, but due to their occupation, it is very difficult for them to stop using cars, just like my Toronto real estate colleagues can’t.
