Green Friendly – Is This For Us?
We know about many eco-friendly products like for gardening or organic food and solar lights, but… How can we define a green-friendly lifestyle? There is a common belief that green-friendly products equal lack of comfort, and if we think how eager we are to pamper our bums with ultra-soft toilet paper, we may understand how true this is. Well, you may not know or care that very soft toilet is made from virgin fiber wood that requires the cutting down of trees. Next time when you fancy yourself as a green-friendly person, think about your daily habits and find out how serious your environmental concern really is.
The food you eat tells a lot about how green-friendly you are. Lots of people have started using organic food because of health problems or out of concern for the environment. A vegetables garden will produce very nice food that can be kept 100% pesticide free. And here we have an inexpensive way of covering the need for beans, peas, tomatoes, carrots or peppers. If you don’t have the possibility to grow the vegetables yourself, you can buy from local green-friendly farms.
Then, to continue the list of green-friendly lifestyle examples we ought to refer to outdoor activities more. How much time does your child spend in front of the computer or watching TV? The choice of the leisure activities should be from those that require spending time outside. Sports like climbing or cycling, family camping and other activities in natural settings will encourage children to seek a nature-oriented life. If more parents thought like this, there would be fewer video-game consoles sold all over the world.
Lots of other elements define a green-friendly attitude to life. From the effort to recycle and reuse to the building of a sustainable house, there are many ways to stay environmental. We do separate our waste for recycling but very sometimes not even that happens and we don’t even care where the garbage goes. We forget that the very fish we have for dinner comes from a dirty ocean and that it could carry the germs and toxins that we fed it in the first place.

A green-friendly life is defined by several other elements. We have got so used to our comfort, to the huge number of ready made items that serve us every day that we not even think where all our litter goes once we dump it in the bin or what happens to the waste water full of household residues. Just think for a second that the fish we serve for dinner may come from the toxic pool that the ocean has become, then, we may be more co-interested in cleaning this larger ‘home’ of ours.

Natural Cleaning Products
A major change in household cleaning would be the use of natural cleaning products instead of the traditional chemicals we regularly rely on. Chemical cleaners pose higher health risks particularly for children, and the overall toxicity reaches very high. You protect not only the environment but your family first and foremost. Some green cleaning products are manufactured by specialized companies, while others can be mixed at home with very common ingredients available in the house. Vegetable soup, saponin plants, lemon juice, salt, vinegar, baking soda or mineral can become viable cleaning solutions.
homemade natural cleaning products
The advantages of natural cleaning products are both individual and collective. First of all, health is no longer endangered by the toxic fumes and the pollution gets lower. Most of the health problems resulting from the use of conventional cleaning products are skin allergies, rashes, dermatitis and respiratory problems. Ecological solutions cause no harm to the environment and protect the body system. You can prepare the natural cleaning products at home or buy them from supply stores.
Glass cleaners that contain isopropyl, are incredibly irritant for the skin, nose, eyes and throat. Then, serious skin damage occurs from the use of chlorine-based bathroom cleaners. And the list of examples is a lot longer. If you manage to replace these substances with biodegradable natural cleaning products, you are the first to enjoy the benefits. Moreover, there is also an economic concern about the cleaning and maintenance needs of households in general. The costs are very high if you sum up all the cleaning products used per year.
Think how much you can improve in terms of individual costs and increased productivity, not to mention the possibility to keep pollution levels under control. People who work in a cleaning business or have a cleaning job are also a lot more in advantage by using natural cleaning products. Efficient results are also possible even for professional usage. Natural cleaning products are expected to increase in terms of market exposure over the next few years, but it is up to us to accelerate their market influence.
Will Australia finally be taking Simazine out of its swimming pools?
The chemical Simazine, which is used in products to clean swimming pools and stop the growth of Algae is recieving calls to be made illegal. The chemical has had a ban on it in America for fifteen years after test linked it to causing cancer, but is still used in Swimming pools in Australia. A recent report from the Australian pesticides and veterinary medicines authority claims that the amount of Simazine far exceeded the allowed daily intake from the Australian drinking water guideline health limit.
While the report didnt show that children exposed to the chemical have any lasting health problems, supporters of the ban are claiming with the levels over the ADI, the effects in later life for children could be dangerous. The company Wobelea, who manufacture the products containing the chemical are claiming that this is nothing more than a witch hunt. ‘For arguments sake, you would have to drink all the water in an Olympic pool, say 500,000 litres, to get anywhere near a toxic dose’.’
The investigation will determine if any new information has come to light reguarding the effects of the chemical, but while this is happening products containing Simazine will still be made available, which has angered campaigners. The chemical is banned in the United states and not used at all in European countries, which asks the question why are questionable swimmming pool chemicals still used in Australia? The Australian government is said to be watching events over this unfold with interest and have said they will take action if the chemical is found to be harmful.
Last month in Tasmania, there was panic in the local area after traces of this chemical and Altrazine were found in the supplies of drinking water. Though the levels of the chemicals found in the water sources has been said to be minute, there should not be any in drinking water sources at all.
